Zachary NF Research Fund

WHAT IS THE ZACHARY NF RESEARCH FUND?

NF (neurofibromatosis) causes tumors of the central nervous system that can become malignant. There is no known cause or cure.

The Zachary NF Research Fund was founded by the family of Zachary Bartz. Zac lived his life dealing with the challenges of NF and cancer. Unfortunately, Zac’s courageous battle ended on Nov. 20th, 2013. In his honor his family has committed to continue to support research at the University of Minnesota to find a cure.

For more information on our Golf Tournament and how you may become a sponsor or how to contribute to the Zachary NF Research Fund, please contact
Greg Bartz @ 612-414-5708 or
zacnfresearch@gmail.com.

What is NF1?

Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) is a genetic congenital disorder that predisposes afflicted individuals to tumors of the central nervous system and the peripheral nerves. More than 80,000 people live with NF throughout the United States. The rate is about 1 in every 3,000 to 3.500 live births.

Observations regarding tumor development in neurofibromatosis have led to important insights regarding brain tumors in the general population. The causes for NF1 remain largely unknown, making this research effort even more important.

Neurofibromatosis can cause:
  • brain tumors
  • deafness
  • learning disabilities
  • facial disfigurement
  • cancer
  • optic gliomas
